A classic Chesterfield headboard usually ends where the button tufting ends. This Casa Padrino Chesterfield bed headboard goes one step further: around the densely buttoned inner field runs a wide, smooth frame, edged with decorative nails. The result looks like a framed picture – except that it is two metres wide.

This construction brings calm to a pattern that otherwise dominates quickly. The button tufting remains the heart of the design, but it has a border where it stops. Anyone who likes Chesterfield without wanting a room full of baroque will find the balanced path here.

The brown tone sits between taupe and dark chestnut. It is warm enough for a bedroom and serious enough for a hotel room, and it is one of the few tones that hold their own beside pale oak as well as dark walnut.

The decorative nails on the frame are set individually. They give the piece the handcrafted trait by which good upholstered furniture is recognised, and they catch the light in a fine, interrupted line.

Structurally it holds a solid wood body with dimensionally stable polyester foam. A headboard of this size must be sturdy, because someone leans against it every evening – in hotel suites, someone different every evening.
